The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announces that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed the appeal filed by Mr. André Cardoso against the decision rendered by the UCI Anti-Doping Tribunal (UCI ADT) on 15 November 2018.

The CAS confirmed that Mr. Cardoso committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) and upheld the four-year period of ineligibility imposed on him by the UCI ADT (27.06.2017-26.06.2021).

Mr. Cardoso’s ADRV resulted from the analysis of a sample collected in the scope of an out-of-competition control on 18 June 2017, which revealed the presence of Recombinant Erythropoietin (EPO).

The CAS Panel confirmed that the UCI established the existence of an ADRV under Article 2.2 of the UCI Anti-Doping Rules (Use of a Prohibited Substance) based on Mr. Cardoso’s A-sample analytical results and corroborating (documentary and) expert evidence.

(...)

Finally, the UCI notes that Mr. Cardoso has lodged an action to set aside the CAS award before the Swiss Federal Supreme Court. Mr. Cardoso’s period of ineligibility remains in force pending the outcome of those proceedings, unless the Swiss Federal Supreme Court rules otherwise.
